Making it easier to breastfeed when out and about in Stockton.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Counci is the latest area to join the Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme.

Breastfeeding has been highlighted as a priority in Stockton in the recenlty published Stockton Borough Council “Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy”.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council are committed to giving every child in the Borough the very best start in life and are proud to be launching a Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme that will benefit both families and local businesses.

Councillor Jim Beall, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Health commented, “We are aware that many local venues already try to make sure women feel welcome to breastfeed; this scheme wishes to acknowledge those businesses and offer help and support to businesses who would like to take part”.

Professor Peter Kelly, Director of Public Health also endorses the scheme: “The scheme is open to local premises from haridressers, shops, libraries and museums to community and health centres – in fact anywhere that is open to the general public.”
